Our Parent Education provides parents with information about developmental disabilities such as autism, the resources that are available to them, and the differences between the strategies used to parent a typical child versus a special needs child. In doing so, we equip and empower families to grow in a healthy way.
More specifically, parent education is provided on:
- antecedents and consequences,
- identifying the functions of the problem behavior,
- positive reinforcement and behavior contingencies,
- natural cues, and
- natural environments in order to promote generalization.
Our Parent Education classes consist of 16 hours of formal instruction, including homework.
Under special circumstances classes may be provided within a one-to-one format. Typically, however, they are provided in small groups of up to 6 parents for 4 hours per session, four times in a one month period. Classes are conducted both on weekdays as well as weekends, depending on availability.
